RN - Safety

Job Responsibilities:

The InterMed Safety Assistant will provide general assistance and support to the Safety Program, ensuring safe practice at all InterMed locations and facilitating compliance with safety and OSHA regulations.


• Provides general support and assistance to the Safety Program
• Assists with New Employee Orientation, specifically:
    a. Assist the Safety Administrator in providing initial new hire safety training 
    b. Conduct safety tours for all new employees
    c. Complete required health and safety screenings of new employees
        i. Review immunization records. Order titers, as indicated
        ii. Administer vaccines, as indicated
        iii. Perform Fit Testing, as indicated
        iv. Administer Tuberculin Skin Test
        v. Conduct initial ergonomic evaluation
    d. Prepare new employee safety folder
        i. Develop and maintain a secure safety folder database
    e. Follow up with new employees within the first 60 days of hire
• Assists the Safety Administrator with Health and Safety monitoring activities
    a. Conducts surveillance for influenza outbreak
        i. Tracks and reports trends
        ii. Monitors compliance with the patient masking protocol
    b. Coordinates employee flu vaccine program
    c. Tracks employee flu vaccines compliance
• Assists the Safety Officers/Administrator with the management of fire safety throughout the buildings 
    a. Maintains staff rosters for evacuation clipboards
    b. Participates in scheduled drills and associated debriefing sessions
• Provides support to the Safety Officers
    a. Assists with maintenance of the SDS binders
    b. Assists with the maintenance of the First Aid kits /spill kits
• Assists in Safety audits. Assists with development of audit reports and action plans. Assists in follow up on actions plans
• Attains certification in ergonomics and provides ongoing support across the organization by assisting with ergonomic evaluations
• Assists in the implementation and maintenance of a Hand Hygiene program
• Provides clerical support to the Safety Committee
• Coordinates the content to be displayed on the practice Safety Boards
• Assists the Safety Administrator to develop, maintain and coordinate training
• Coordinates the scheduling of CPR courses
• Coordinates mock codes across all sites
• Other duties and projects as assigned

Job Qualifications:
• Associate’s Degree as a Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA); RN/LPN with active and unencumbered Maine license preferred
• Minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare setting
• Excellent communication skills:  listening, oral and written
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of employees within InterMed
• Able to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and plan work independently
• Strong computer skills; Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
