Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant On-Site at L.L. Bean - Part Time

Job Responsibilities:

The role of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) /Physician Assistant (PA) onsite at L.L.Bean is to provide the highest quality medical care with a primary focus on the evaluation and treatment of occupational injuries, from diagnosis through recovery. Utilizing evidence-based standards of care, the NP/PA, in collaboration with physicians and clinical support staff, will perform health assessments, diagnose and treat ambulatory patients with acute and common workplace injuries and illnesses, assess for safe job placement and conduct fitness-for-duty exams. As part of the clinical role, NP/PA may prescribe medication; order diagnostic and/or therapeutic tests, i.e. labs, x-rays; carry out minor in-office procedures; and perform any other clinical care within the scope of practice and established protocols. Maintain medical records through excellent documentation, and administer highest quality medical care as directed and within scope of practice and established protocols. The NP/PA will act as a clinical leader, promoting professional excellence, teamwork and collaboration for the best care of the patient. The NP/PA will participate in quality measure initiatives, committees and clinical consultations to attain positive patient outcomes.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute illnesses and injuries that occur on the job.
  • Conduct Fitness for Duty Exams.
  • Determine ability to work safely as part of injury management process and post offer job process.
  • Collaborate with safety to assist in job hazard identification and injury prevention efforts.
  • Promote health maintenance and wellness counseling; utilizing such skills as Motivational Interviewing.
  • Act as a champion of the on-site health and wellness team to promote wellness and the absence of disease.
  • Demonstrate independent decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Practice independently as medical provider onsite.
  • Engaged, motivated and creative in looking for opportunities for continuous improvement that would be beneficial to LL Bean and its employees.
  • Communicate with Operational leadership, HR, and other business partners as appropriate to educate, advocate and support the health and well-being of LL Bean employees
  • Support Employee Health Team as defined by LL Bean; clinical triage and support on-site, assist with case reviews, as needed.
  • Provide patient education.
  • Provide public health alerts and information as it relates to, and potentially impacts, the LL Bean community
  • Act as patient advocate to ensure patients’ needs are defined and addressed.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and deliver care in a manner that preserves the patient’s autonomy, dignity, rights, values and beliefs.
  • Maintain and safeguard confidentiality of employee health information and health records.
  • Respond to medical office emergencies with the care team and administer CPR and basic first aid when required (and as demonstrated by competency).
  • Is approachable; demonstrating a respectful and welcoming attitude.
  • Makes every effort to be non-judgmental, is reflective with feedback and takes the initiative to work through conflicts in a manner that promotes team work and unity.
  • Participates in training and is in compliance with all policies, procedures and safety requirements of InterMed staff.



Job Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Experience working in Occupational Medicine strongly preferred
  • Strong musculoskeletal physical assessment skills
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation and case management preferred
  • License to practice in the state of Maine
  • DEA License
  • Knowledge of healthcare procedures
  • Counseling/advising competence
  • Independent decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Interpersonal/human relations skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience with EMR preferred
