Urgent Care RN Level I

Job Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of the Urgent Care Registered Nurse (RN) I is to assess the patient’s health problems and needs; develop and implement nursing care plans; maintain medical records through excellent documentation, and administer highest quality nursing care as directed and within scope of practice and established protocols. The RN may also provide guidance and education to the patient on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management in cooperation with the provider and the treatment plan. The RN acts as a clinical leader promoting professional excellence, teamwork and collaboration for the best care of the patient amongst the various care disciplines.


  • Provides patient education
  • Gathers up to date patient information; surgical history, family history, and social history for patient visits
  • Acts as an advocate for the patient
  • Facilitates test results by protocol to assure timely patient notification, working in concert with physician to prioritize results and review
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times and delivers care in a manner that preserves the patient’s autonomy, dignity, rights, values and beliefs
  • Responds to medical office emergencies with the care team and administers CPR and basic first aid when required (and as demonstrated by competency)
  • Recognizes the importance of the patient, family, and/or caregiver to patient centered care
  • Demonstrates a respectful and positive attitude to all patients, coworkers and providers
  • Participates in training and is in compliance with all policies, procedures and safety requirements of InterMed staff
  • Will provide coverage at our Idexx clinic occasionally as needed


Job Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, attitude and ability required.

  • Successful completion of RN program, BSN preferred
  • Active unencumbered Maine license
  • Hands on, direct patient care experience
  • I.V. and Phlebotomy Competency preferred
  • Splinting experience preferred
  • Caring and compassionate demeanor
  • Excellent professional judgment, assessment taking, phone skills and decision making ability
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks without sacrificing quality
  • Must successfully be fitted for a N95 mask

Other Job Information (if applicable):
12 hour shifts, 7am-7pm, rotating including weekends and holidays.
