Medical Technologist

Schedule:Full Time 32-40 hrs/wk
  

Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for performing all procedures processed at the InterMed Lab.  Must be able to understand all necessary functions of the LIS System

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Read and understand all procedures in department procedure manuals
• Be completely familiar with all equipment and instruments used in the department.  Also assist in weekly and monthly maintenance procedures
• Understand all necessary functions with LIS System
• Must back up Phlebotomist/Specimen Processor when necessary
• Prepare pertinent reagents according to laboratory standard procedures
• Perform tests as described in procedure manual, under the direction of the manager, in the time allotted
• Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples
• Perform all Quality Control procedures
• Be aware of supply levels at all times
• Report patient results as instructed by the manager
• Keep work area and equipment clean an organized
• Conduct oneself in a professional manner
• Assist the manager, when so directed, in evaluation of test results, in trouble shooting of equipment and procedures, and in the indoctrination and training of new personnel
• Follow all OSHA regulations as applied to InterMed
• Must know and abide by all personnel policies and procedures
• Must maintain good public relations with outpatients, all staff and doctors
• Help cover vacation and sick time
• Continue to work on quality improvement initiatives with manager


Job Qualifications:
• B.S. (Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Sciences)
• HEW Technologist
• Ability to perform clinical laboratory tests according to established and accepted procedures
• Ability to report all tests and procedures in a timely and correct manner to the attending physician
• Ability to participate in maintenance of laboratory equipment and premises
• Ability communicate problems and unusual laboratory observations to laboratory manager
• Maintain appropriate skills and knowledge of laboratory medicine.
• Must be able to direct technical activities of assistant technicians, supervise maintenance of laboratory equipment and availability of appropriate supplies and reagents, and assure regular performance and recording of quality control procedures.

Other Job Information (if applicable):
Full time, department hours Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 7am-5:30pm.  Rotating 12-hour Sunday shifts and holidays.
