The clinical assistant is responsible for managing the day to day patient flow through the office, assisting the provider with procedures/diagnostics, and serving as the direct liaison for the patients’ needs. The clinical assistant in this role with float between several providers.
- Complete Prior Authorizations and Pre-Certifications for procedures and tests for the department- Schedule surgeries both at the InterMed ASC and at MMC- Assessment of provider schedules and organize patient flow - Assist providers with patient care: - Rooming patients - Assess patients’ general condition and take vital signs and weight - Collect specimens (as directed by provider) - Perform screenings per provider guidelines - Assist providers with procedures - Give injections and immunizations as directed by provider - Schedule outside procedures and tests (i.e. stress tests, colonoscopies, etc.) - Document all interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed or prescribed, hospital data in the medical record - Maintains structured data registries and Meaningful Use information - Provide patient education materials, communicate providers’ advice and instructions - Prepare, stock and clean exam room(s), maintain supplies and equipment for treatment - Coordinate patient needs by documenting and prioritizing phone calls - Fulfill clerical responsibilities which may include: - Obtaining lab/x-ray reports - Hospital notes - Referral information - Completing forms/requisitions as needed - Provide back-up support for other clinical staff as necessary - Special projects as assigned by lead, coordinator or manager
