Surgery Center RN - Per Diem

Job Responsibilities:




  • Patient assessment is continuous and is documented on the Operating Room record according to policy.
  • Nursing interventions are prioritized to provide optimum patient outcomes.
  • Knowledge and consideration of potential complications in the care of the peri-operative patient is demonstrated by appropriate patient supplies and organized set up and is reflected in the Nursing Plan of Care.
  • Knowledge of anesthetic techniques (general, regional, local) and surgical procedures is demonstrated by documentation and the Nursing Plan of Care.
  • Safety is demonstrated by maintaining the patient free from injury during the peri-operative experience.
  • Established policies and procedures for aseptic technique will be adhered to.
  • Competency with patient care protocols is demonstrated by patient monitoring and documentation.
  • Patient transfer/transport is patient focused and transition is efficient.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of patient care.
  • Respect patient and family human rights at all times.
  • Maintain patient advocate role at all times.


Job Qualifications:



  • Successful completion of RN program, BSN preferred
  • Active unencumbered Maine license
  • Previous Ambulatory Surgery or OR Pre and Post Op, Circulating and PACU experience required
  • ACLS and PALS preferred
  • Caring and compassionate demeanor
  • Excellent professional judgment, assessment taking, phone skills and decision making ability
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks without sacrificing quality

Physical demands:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, balance, grasp with both hands, pinch with thumb and forefinger; reach hand/arm above shoulder height.  Employee must be able to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds; must have ability to listen and speak on the telephone and write simultaneously; ability to operate clinical equipment and read gauges simultaneously;

ability to listen and speak on the telephone and type or write simultaneously; ability to hold delicate instruments in a steady and firm manner; and ability to operate telephone system and computer keyboard and printer.


Visual, hearing, dexterity and mental demands:


Vision - Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as read office notes, medical records, etc.

Hearing - Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as listening to staff, physicians, and patients.

Speaking - Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such    as communicating with staff and explaining policies and procedures.

Dexterity - Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as sorting papers and typing.

Mental Demands - Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as juggling multiple tasks, etc.


            Working Conditions:


Position requires frequent exposure to blood and body fluids.  Personal protective equipment will be required.  Knowledge of exposure control plan and universal precautions essential. Hazardous materials and blood borne pathogen exposure minimal.
