Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant On-site at IDEXX

Schedule:Full Time 32-40 hrs/wk

Job Responsibilities:
The role of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) /Physician Assistant (PA) on-site at IDEXX is to provide the highest quality medical care with a primary focus on disease prevention, health promotion and patient engagement. Utilizing evidence-based standards of care, the NP/PA, in collaboration with physicians and clinical support staff, will perform health assessments, diagnose and treat ambulatory patients with acute and common injuries and illnesses. As part of the clinical role, NP/PA may prescribe medication; order diagnostic and/or therapeutic tests, i.e. labs, x-rays; carry out minor in-office procedures; and perform any other clinical care within the scope of practice and established protocols. Maintain medical records through excellent documentation, and administer highest quality medical care as directed and within scope of practice and established protocols. The NP/PA will act as a clinical leader, promoting professional excellence, teamwork and collaboration for the best care of the patient. The NP/PA will participate in quality measure initiatives, committees and clinical consultations to attain positive patient outcomes. The NP/PA plays an active role as a team member in developing and promoting IDEXX’s well-being programs designed to improve the overall health of the IDEXX workforce.

-Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats acute illnesses and injuries.
-Promotes health maintenance and wellness counseling; utilizing such skills as Motivational Interviewing.
-Acts as a champion of the on-site health and wellness team to promote wellness and the absence of disease.
-Demonstrates independent decision-making and problem solving skills
-Communicates with Operational leadership, HR, and other business partners as appropriate to educate, advocate and support the health and well-being of IDEXX employees
-Delivers educational programs at IDEXX to support health and well-being goals. For example; a lunch and learn on diabetes.
-Supports clinical triage and support on-site, assist with case reviews, as needed.
-Provides patient education.
-Provides public health alerts and information as it relates to, and potentially impacts, the IDEXX community
-Acts as patient advocate to ensure patients’ needs are defined and addressed.
-Maintains confidentiality at all times and delivers care in a manner that preserves the patient’s autonomy, dignity, rights, values and beliefs. 
-Maintains and safeguards confidentiality of employee health information and health records.
-Responds to medical office emergencies with the care team and administers CPR and basic first aid when required (and as  demonstrated by competency). 
-Is approachable; demonstrating a respectful and welcoming attitude.
-Makes every effort to be non-judgmental, is reflective with feedback and takes the initiative to work through conflicts in a manner that promotes team work and unity.
-Participates in training and is in compliance with all policies, procedures and safety requirements of InterMed staff.
-The NP/PA will participate in quality measure initiatives, NP/PA group meetings and organizational committees as follows:
-Attend 2 of 3 NP/PA Whole Group Meetings Annually
-Attend 50% of Department Specific Meetings Annually
-Attend 67% (2/3) of Committee Meetings Annually

Job Qualifications:
-Successful completion of accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner academic program
-2 or more years primary care experience required
-Maintain current national certification by an accrediting body
-Current licensure to practice in the state of Maine
-Current DEA License, including Schedule II Privileges
-Current BLS certification
-Maintain continuing education appropriate for scope of practice and licensure
-Independent decision-making, professional judgment, and problem solving skills
-Interpersonal/human relations skills
-Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a busy environment
-Basic computer skills, experience with EMR preferred
-Basic knowledge of billing and reimbursement 

Other Job Information (if applicable):
8:00am-4:30pm M-F with some variability in schedule based on patient demand.
